Safety gatha
Inside this body,
my breath guides me to safety,
silky wings fly free.
from Nomi
“Whose hand is this that has never died? Has anyone been born? Will anyone die?
My grandmother gave her hands to my father who gave them to me
-and the feet, too
-and the eyes, of course, those windows to the soul.
And before she left her body she gave my daughter her birthday
so I could call her
-so many miles away-
to say “Guess what? Jessica (named for my father, her son)
is here and she came on your birthday.”
So we had a happy talk and within a week a stroke took her
-because she had passed the baton
-and is not really gone
-at all.

Clouds and glaciers
Warm in my shower.
Down to the river
Water becomes
Clouds and glaciers again.
Sweeping the floor carefully
Cultivating the path to liberation.
Sitting, drinking my tea.
Smoke rising into the blue sky.
The iron in my red blood cells
A gift from the stars’ super novas
Bringing oxygen, releasing carbon dioxide
River of life.
from Paulette
Sitting in stillness
Not blown about by the winds of change.
Pause, smile, relax.
Sitting
Sparrows in the cedars
Sunshine
Tea .
Sunlight and bees in my tea
Water and earth in my cup
All in perfect harmony
We are one.
